Show Some Love…

The holidays somewhat put a pause on YFP activities but we’re back. Last month’s first mixer at Pho 79 in Sam’s Circle, Chesapeake was well attended. We welcomed new members and other guests (who are at the moment commitment-phoebes) and cheered members we haven’t seen in a while. Ray Obispo was our guest speaker and he spoke so eloquently about his Fil-Am experience growing up and finding his identity. He also challenged the group to reevaluate its identity and rise above the noise so that it can serve its purpose of raising awareness of the Filipino culture, fostering connections, and providing avenues for giving back to the community.

With that said, we understand your priorities may have shifted. But show some love and attend our February general/social meeting/mixer.

When: February 20, 2010 @ 1pm
Where: Tida Thai 336 Constitution Dr. , Virginia Beach VA, 23462  (757) 490-0515
Guest speaker: Ed Guia (TBD)

Taking part at Gawad Kalinga

YFP Community Involvement Chair Edner Rull and YFP Secretary Charmaine Berina together with their friends and families took part in the 5K Gawad Kalinga Walk, October 11 at Mt. Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach.

Gawad Kalinga which means to “give care” is a holistic approach to poverty. GK is a community development model which begins at the grassroots level, fueled by a massive army of volunteers and partners who are working together in bayanihan (cooperation) to bring about change and to restore the dignity of the poorest of the poor.

GK
In the Philippines, GK is a nation-building movement, that engages all sectors of society from the government, academe, corporate, religious, NGOs, and private citizens. Together, we are building a first-class Philippines one community at a time.
